THEME:  TRIO

 The Three Of Graces

 

 

This art piece was created from the Botticelli painting, Primavera,  which is where I got my image to use for the Tarot Card Challenge. I love Botticelli's work and knew that I would want to create more art later on from some of the  images from the painting. When I read about  our new challenge this week, I thought  the Primavera  would be a perfect fit for what I had in mind to create!

Primavera, also known as Allegory of Spring, 
painted by the famous Italian Renaissance artist, Sandra Botticelli,1482.
 This is what the painting looks like in it's entirety, which includes 9 demi-gods and goddess!
Truly a beautiful masterpiece!!
 

 

A few Interesting facts about the La Primavera!!! 

 

The pastoral scenery is elaborate. Botticelli said there are 500 identified plant species depicted in the painting, with about 190 different flowers. Of the 190 different species of flowers depicted, at least 130 have been specifically named.

From right to left: Zephyrus, the biting wind of March, kidnaps and possesses the nymph Chloris, whom he later marries and transforms into a deity; she becomes the goddess of Spring, eternal bearer of life, and is scattering roses on the ground.

Venus presides over the garden - an orange grove where she stands in front of the dark leaves of a myrtle bush.  The  Three Graces accompanying her are targeted by Cupid,  while Mercury keeps the garden safe from threatening clouds. The woman in the flowered dress is Primavera (a personification of Spring) with her companion Flora.

The painting was inventoried in the collection of Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de' Medici in 1499. Since 1919, it has hung in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. During World War Two, the picture was moved to Montegufoni Castle to protect it from wartime bombing. It was returned to the Uffizi Gallery where it remains to the present day. In 1982, the painting was restored.

I have been searching for a dark art challenge blog
that welcomed digital art entries and wouldn't you know,
this morning as I  left a comment on  Marilyn Girling's blog, 

I saw the badge for Dreamers In Darkness!
With a quick click of the wrist, I found myself on their
challenge page that contained many pieces of  incredible dark art!

Dreamers In Darkness is a mixed media, digital art,
stamp art, assemblage, altered art challenge blog so

their motto is "anything goes"as far as entries for the challenge!

And coincidently, that is also the theme for this month's theme,

 "Anything Goes"!!

I Am Published!

 

Yes, it's true, and all of my thanks goes to

Alicia Caudle
at Altered Bits for making it possible for my art work to be published! 
Alicia Caudle is a remarkable woman and a wonderful inspiration to the artist community through her incredible web site, newsletters, and tutorials!  
She sells her amazing art work along with the delightful collage sheets she personally designs. Alisha holds a yearly challenge that she opens to give artists the wonderful  opportunity to enter their art work for possible publication in  her digital Altered Bits E-Zine!
She has already published 3 Altered Bits E-Zines that are jam packed with outstanding examples of mixed media art from artists who entered the challenge!

I chose the theme, "Notorious" and with my two favorite Hollywood Divas in mind,
Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, I created an altered art book with images from the movie, "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane"!

I sent my entry to Alicia with my fingers crossed and went completely
out-of-my-mind
thrilled when she sent the e-mail letting me know  that my altered art book would be published in the Altered Bits Zine!

Art On The Darkside Challenge

"Ignis Fatuus"

This Dark Side Theme  "Where The Wisps Lead You..."
was posted from January 15th  to February 13th and as life would have it,
I had so many things to do and totally missed the deadline!

This challenge intrigued me!

Meikoningin gave us several different definitions of how "WISPS" are  defined...

 

"A will-o'-the-wisp or ignis fatuus — also called will-o'-wisp,

corpse candle, jack-o'-lantern, friar's lantern, gunderslislik,

and wisp — is the folklore term for a ghostly light sometimes

seen at night or twilight over bogs, swamps, and marshes.

It resembles a flickering lamp and is sometimes said to

recede if approached."

I was not familiar with the phrase,

"Ignis Fatuus" 

and was eager to start putting together some images that I thought

would create that "wispy" kind of creepy artI found some foggy,
bleak-looking backgrounds and spooky images that already reflected some
kind of eerie light in the background!

After I finished working on the art piece I started for this challenge

 I realized that I still had a huge file of eerie images that I wanted to

use to create more art with the Ignis Fatuus theme!
